# Easy use hosts.

* Hosts is a file that the computer looks at before submitting a question to a dns server. (a dns server is a spot on the Internet that turns www.pornsite.com into an actual IP address).

This file is located in

windows xp = c:\windows\system32\drivers\ect\hosts

windows 2000 = c:\winnt\system32\drivers\ect\hosts

windows ME/9X =c:\windows\hosts

# Ok found it now what?

* if you open that file with notepad you will see some lines starting with a # these are comments and have no effect on the file

o the next the is an address "127.0.0.1 localhost" this is the first line of the file and must remain the first line of the file. Anything you do must be after this line.

o now we add a new line to the file

"127.0.0.1 www.pornsite.com" with out the quotes. save

the file.

# Now what happens?

* when the web browser trys to find www.pornsite.com the site cannot be found.

# For more information see
